Surprise! Cleaning supplies are expensive. Okay, that’s not a surprise. But what might be is that if you’re looking to save a few pennies on products, you might already have what you need.
Microfiber cloths don’t require cleaners to get the job done. When you use them, not only can you cut down on the number of cleaning products you buy, but you won’t be making nearly as much waste since they’re reusable.
Unlike regular fabric rags or paper towels, microfiber material is specifically designed to pick up dirt and dust. The cloths are made from polyester and nylon that are woven together using heat. When combined, they’re then split into microfibers (get it?) that can be as small as one denier or less. A denier is about 1/100th of the diameter of a strand of hair. So, yeah, teeny tiny fibers.
Say goodbye to your multi-purpose cleaner.
Those small fibers are what make the cloth effective sans cleaner. The microfibers are positively charged which attracts negatively charged particles like dirt, bacteria, and grease. Think of them as a magnet for all that dirty gunk.
When it comes time to wash them, you can do so by hand, running them in cool to warm water and scrubbing the fibers together with your hands. Allow them to soak for 10-15 minutes, agitate them, and then hang them up to dry.
If you’re looking to trim your budget, grabbing some microfiber cloths might be the way to go, and while you’re at it, ditch the glass cleaner, too.
