Superman: Legacy Casting Timeline Update

James Gunn is finishing his final commitments with Marvel for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Once that ends, he will officially be with DC full-time as co-CEO. One of Gunn’s first decisions will be casting the titular hero in Superman: Legacy.

Because of Gunn’s commitments to Guardians 3, Deadline reporter Justin Kroll believes a Superman: Legacy casting update won’t come until the summer at the earliest. According to Kroll, “every rep who has a client” has submitted an audition tape for the role of Clark Kent/Superman. Yet, those clients were told that Gunn and his co-CEO, Peter Safran, “plan to watch everyone.” Artificial Sand

Superman: Legacy Casting Timeline Update

Since Gunn has been knee deep in the GUARDIANS press tour and probably won’t watch any till after the movie opens, I’d say a decision will come closer to ComicCon. So when it comes to “favorites” for the role, I’d tread lightly until we’re closer to tee Fourth of July

One date to keep an eye on is July’s San Diego Comic-Con. Over the years, this event has been a launch pad for major announcements in Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Avatar, and more. From the Avengers assembling onstage in 2011 to the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice announcement in 2013, Comic-Con is a high-profile event worthy of a casting announcement for a character as important as Superman.

Rumors have been circulating on the Internet that DC already has a few actors in mind to play Clark Kent. Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson, Luke Eisner, Wolfgang Novogratz, Austin Butler, and David Corenswet have all been rumored to be in the running for the part. However, Kroll clarified in a later tweet that DC leadership is nowhere close to making a decision.

Yeah again it’s impossible to put a time on these decisions, most of the time when people give a timeframe it almost always goes past it, I just wanted to make it clear they aren’t close to making a decision on who will land the role.

Superman: Legacy soars into theaters on July 11, 2025.
