Leistritz Extrusion will host the annual twin-screw extrusion workshop on Nov. 28 and 29, 2018, at its Somerville, NJ, headquarters. As always, classroom sessions will be supplemented by hands-on operating sessions. Topics that will be addressed include co-rotating and counter-rotating twin-screw extrusion technology; screw design and process techniques; feeder and material handling for pellets, powders and liquids; direct extrusion for sheet, film, fibers and profiles; and much more.
In addition to Leistritz staff, experts from industry and academe will lead the discussions. Speakers include Chris Case and Bill Murphy from Maag, Niloufar Faridi from the Polymer Processing Institute and Jed Randall of NatureWorks.
Many of these topics will be supplemented with hands-on demonstrations in the process laboratory, where Leistritz also will demo its new ZSE 3D-filament system.
A recent addition to the Leistritz New Jersey process laboratory, the ZSE-3D filament system facilitates the development and production of 3D filaments directly from the twin-screw extruder, as well as other tubes and profiles.
As configured in the lab, the system is suited for in-line compounding of polymers with additives and active fillers to quickly develop new filaments and formulations, said Leistritz. Formulations can be modified on the fly for rapid sampling of filaments with different formulation percentages. A sample can be produced every 10 minutes.
